The United National Congress celebrates 31 years of selfless service to the people of Trinidad and Tobago, and reiterate the party’s commitment towards national development and ensuring that we can rebuild our country and improve the lives of our citizens who are currently facing the unprecedented crisis posed by the novel coronavirus.

The party says Thirty-one years ago, the United National Congress political party was formed as a vehicle to fight for equality, social justice and sustainable development for all citizens of Trinidad and Tobago, and we have remained steadfast in our goals.

In a statement the party’s says, our beloved T&T is facing the threat posed by Covid-19, which has drastically changed our lives, and the way we interact with each other.  An anniversary is usually a time for celebration and festivity, however, this year, we cannot come together.  We will mark the occasion by continuing with our national relief effort for families affected by the crisis.

Over the past few weeks, the UNC team, including hundreds of party activists, Councillors, Members of Parliament have been helping thousands of citizens with hampers, food items, masks as well as other necessities as a result of the catastrophic situation they currently face.  I urge those who have the means to do so, to give to those in need.  The fact is that while thousands have lost their jobs and are unable to care for their families, assistance from the Government has been slow and bogged down in bureaucracy.

The UNC also says crisis facing our nation goes beyond the health risk of Covid-19.  Our country’s economic wellbeing and development, which, before this crisis were ignored by the current administration, have now been derailed by the Rowley Government’s haphazard approach to the health emergency.

The UNC will continue to hold the Government to account for the billions of taxpayers’ dollars that are being spent in the name of this crisis, as well as their failed policies.

Unlike the current administration, we in the UNC have been looking ahead, and we have been working.  The party has prepared a National Economic Transformation Masterplan, which is a blueprint for the stabilization of our economy, the creation of more than 50,000 jobs and sustainable development.

The United National Congress is the only party with the competence, vision and ability to move our country forward. We are proud of our track record of delivery and service to the people, and our diverse team, a mix of experience and youthful innovation, is ready to lead Trinidad and Tobago into the future.

As we pledge to continue fighting for the citizens of our nation, I sincerely thank all the faithful who have given selflessly to build the party through their love and dedication.  I repeat my call for all persons interested in transforming our nation to join us.  All are welcome in the house of the rising sun.

Together, we will heal.  We will get through this crisis and emerge stronger and more united.
