Cries for the New Hospital to become fully Operational.

Once again, Residents of Point Fortin and Environs are calling on the Minister of Health, Terrance Deyalsingh to say when the new billion dollars Point Fortin Hospital will become fully operational. This renewed call comes in the wake of the shooting death of Anthony Jeffery. Mr. Jeffery, was shot on Friday afternoon, he had to be taken to Point Fortin Hospital and then transferred to San Fernando General Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Residents say that Mr Jeffery would have been alive if the hospital was fully operational where the necessary emergency medical treatment could have been performed on him.

Jeffery was shot in Techier Village on Friday afternoon, mere meters from the new Hospital, which had its grand opening ceremony on July 4th 2020 but is not yet fully operational. He had to be taken to the San Fernando General Hospital.

Southsidenewstt reached out to South West Regional Health Authority to determine when the hospital will become fully operational, but our efforts were futile.

A man is dead following a shooting in Techier

A man is dead following a shooting incident on Sixteenth Street Extension, Techier Village, Point Fortin. He is Anthony Jeffery of the said address.

According to reports, shortly before 4 pm today, several loud explosions was heard. Residents told police they saw three men running from the scene, Mr. Jeffery was shot about the body. He was rushed to the Point Fortin Area Hospital, where he underwent emergency treatment and later transferred to the San Fernando General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead of arrival. Police have no motive for this killing.

Region Three Homicide Officers are continuing investigations .

One Dead and two wounded in La Brea shooting

A man has been shot dead in Chin Fong Alley, La Brea. He is identified as Aaron Infill of Cocoyea Village, San Fernando. According to reports around 3.00 am today residents heard loud explosions from the apartment complex at the said location.

Also, two other persons were wounded, they are Trevon Todd of Corbeau Town who received a gunshot to his elbow and Quincy Sobers of Industry Lane who is suffering a gunshot wound to his left wrist, both men were rushed to the San Fernando General Hospital for emergency treatment.

Police have no motive for this incident. La Brea police and Southern Division Homicide Officers are continuing enquires.

Not all students return to School today

A slow start to the reopening of school this morning in Point Fortin, as only students of Form Four (4) and Form Five (5) was to report to school today in preparation for this year exams. Schools in Trinidad and Tobago was closed last March due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. When our crew visited the school only half of the required student reported and heeded the call to return to school today.

We also observed a safety officer placing an instruction sign informing students to observe the safety protocol.

Police detained two Robbery suspects

Two men are now in police custody following a robbery at a supermarket in Point Fortin. According to reports around 8.30 p.m. Monday the men entered Budget Rite Supermarket on Main Field Road, Point Fortin armed with hatchet and announced a hold up. They relieved the cashier of an undisclosed amount of cash.

The men made their escape on foot. However, the escape was short-lived as they were held a short distance away by Police Officers on mobile patrol.

Over the past few weeks, the supermarket was robbed several times. The suspects will be placed on an identification parade.

Point Fortin Police are continuing investigations.

Bye-election day in Hollywood, Point Fortin.

Today is election day in Point Fortin for the Hollywood seat which was left vacant on Borough Council following the General Elections in 2020, as Mr Kennedy Richards Jr. was elected as the Member of Parliament in August 2020.

Three candidates are seeking to replace Mr. Kennedy on the council, they are, (PNM) candidate Leslie Chang Fong, (UNC) candidate Daniel John and the Independent candidate Christopher (Boy-Ross) Wright.

Southsidenewstt will be out in the field all day to bring our viewer’s updated information on the bye-election.

Road Rehabilitation started in Point Fortin

Motorist in Point Fortin can breed a sigh of relief as rehabilitation works on the Guapo Cap-de-Ville Main Road has started last night.

The road has been in a deplorable condition for the past six months since the installation of an eight-inch water main by WASA. When southsidenewstt visited the site last night, workers were seen conducting works. Member of Parliament for Point Fortin, The Rt Honourable Kennedy Richards Jr. was on site getting a first hand update on the progress.

Mr. Richards told southsidenewstt that he is pleased that the work has started. He went on to say that this phase of the work from KFC Roundabout to the Borough Corporation Facility is expected to be completed in five days weather permitted. He also warns motorist to expect more inconvenience as the Water and Sewerage Authority will be continuing the pipe laying exercise on Guapo Cap-de-Ville main road to improve the water supply.

The Rehabilitation Works is being undertaken by Kallo Company Ltd.

Reservoir Hill bids farewell to a fallen son.

Score of family members, friends and colleagues of CPL. Kevon Miller say their final goodbye to him this morning at his funeral service at Mt Carmel Spiritual Baptist Church in Reservoir Hill, Point Fortin.

Mr. Miller was fatally shot one week ago at a birthday lime in Reservoir Hill by an off duty Police Officer. When his death occurred, Miller was a serving member of the Trinidad and Tobago Regiment. He didn’t receive a military send-off, southsidenewstt understand that his family didn’t want any military funeral.

Her Worship The Mayor of Point Fortin, Ms. Saleem Thomas and Commanding Officer of the Trinidad and Tobago Regiment, Col. Singh and several Councilors of the Point Fortin Borough Council was also in attendance.

Miller was attached to the Inter-Agency Task Force. Southsidenewstt reached out to the Region Three Homicide Bureau and we were told that investigations into the incident are continuing.

Mr. Miller has left his wife and five children to mourn.

A man is Gun down in Santa Flora

A man has been shot dead in Santa Flora. He is identified as John Hospedales of Jacob Settlement, Santa Flora. According to reports shortly after midday on Sunday, the victim was standing outside a supermarket along the SS Erin Road in Santa Flora when a vehicle pulled up alongside. An occupant inside of the vehicle open fire hitting Mr. Hospedales twice about the body. It is reported that the assailant then alighted from the vehicle and pumped several more bullets into the victim, he died on the scene. The gunman made his escape of foot.

Police are yet to establish any motive for this killing. Santa Flora Police, and Region Three Homicide Officers are continuing investigations.

Two Houses on Fire in Techier Village, Point Fortin.

Quick action by residents of Techier Village and Point Fortin Fire Fighters have saved two abandoned houses from total destruction. According to reports around 8.50 am today fire of an unknown origin was seen in one of the houses. Villagers formed a bucket brigade and fire fighters were contacted. When they arrived the fire had already spread to the second house. The fire fighters quickly sprang into actions and contained the blaze.

The cause of the blaze could not be immediately determined. Fire Prevention Officers is expected to return to the scene to determine the cause of the blaze.
