Point Fortin Mayor in quarantine

The Point Fortin Mayor have been quarantined. Her Worship, Saleema Mc Cree Thomas is in isolation following contact with a COVID-19 person.

Southsidenewstt understands that the Mayor started feeling unwell about three days ago and visited the doctor, where a PCR Test was done and she was advise to quarantine herself as a precautionary measure.

Up to the time of this news there was no word on her health and that of her staff members.

Covid scare at URP Office in Point Fortin

The staff of the URP Office in Point Fortin are very concerned for their health and is calling on the Minister of Health to intervene. A staff member who wishes to remain anonymous reached out to southsidenewstt. A colleague who was exhibiting flu-like symptoms last week had to be quarantined over the weekend. and have since tested positive for the Covid 19 virus and more workers were asked to self quarantine.

Southsidenewstt understands, that the office was not sanitized and the employees was out to work in full up to today. The employee lamented and went on to say that the Management does not care about the worker’s health.

The Manager who is often referred to as Mrs. Big (C), is also demanding that the workers report for work every day despite the Government’s request for rotation in all State organization to fight the pandemic. When southsidenewstt visited the office, major construction work was taking place at the office, however, staff was seen in working in crammed spaces. There was no adhering to covid-19 regulation.

Southsidenewstt reach out to the Ministry of the Health communication department and we are awaiting further updates. We will bring more updates as it comes to hand.

Police shot and killed a man in Icacas

Police have shot and killed a man in Icacas. He is identified as Kern Richards of the said district. Details remain sketchy, but southsidenewstt understands that he was shot around 5.am today. He was taken to the Point Fortin Hospital, where he died while undergoing emergency treatment.

A man chopped to death in Point Fortin.

A thirty-five years old man has been chopped to death in Point Fortin. He is Martin Pattan of Walker Street, Egypt Village, Point Fortin.

According to reports, shortly before 5.00 am today, Pattan was asleep with his common-law wife when four men broke down the door and entered house demanding drugs and money.

She told investigators she had to fight off one of the men and hide in a room with her baby; however, when the men left, she discovered Pattan in a pool of blood in the other room of the house with several chops about his body.

Police are working on the theory that the murder may be drug-related. Inspector Jones of Regional Three Homicide is spearheading inquiries.

Body of missing teen at sea Found

The body of 14yrs old Matthew Sookoo has been found. The discovery was made around 10.30 am today by members of the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard in the vicinity of the Columbus Channel in Cedros.

Sookoo was with a group of men on-board an unregistered pirogue that went out to sea off Fullerton’s coast around 3.45 pm Saturday to test the boat, which was fitted with a 200 horsepower engine when it is believed that he fell off the boat into the water and disappeared. A search was carried out, but he was not found.

The body has been ordered to be removed by the District Medical Officer to the Forensic Science, where a post mortem is expected to be conducted to determine the cause of his death.

Cedros Police are continuing investigation.

Teen is missing at Sea

A teenager is missing at sea, he is Matthew Sookoo, 14 years of Fullerton Village, Cedros. According to reports Sookoo was with a group of men on board an unregistered pirogue which went out to sea, off the coast of Fullerton around 3.45 pm yesterday to test the boat, which was fitted with a 200 horsepower engine.

Darren Ragoobir told the investigator, on reaching some seven hundred feet into the sea, they decided to return to shore. Upon checking, Sookoo was not found onboard the vessel. A search of the ocean was made by the vessel. However, he was not found. The crew alerted villagers and fellow fishermen from the village, they mounted a search for Sookoo; however, he was not found. The Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard were contacted, and they also joined in the search for the teen.

Cedros Police are continuing investigations.

Police detained Venezuelan Nationals for illegal entry into Trinidad

Police have detained twenty Venezuelan Nationals for entering this country illegally. According to reports, around 10 p.m. on Saturday, Officers of Southwestern Task Divisional Force together with Inter-Agency Task Force were conducting Operation Sea Breeze, spearheaded Snr. Supt Brandon John. Upon receiving information, Officers processed to Los Iros Beach, where they observed a vessel with a number of persons including children disembarking from a boat. They proceeded to three vehicles parked alongside the shore of the beach, on seeing the police the vehicle speed off, they were intercepted a short distance away.

Six children and eighteen adults were detained, all speaking Spanish. They were taken to Siparia Health Facility in accordance with Covid 19 protocols.

The males are being held at Santa Flora Police Station, while the women and children are at the Erin Police Station.

Police arrested the drivers of the vehicles. Investigation are continuing.

MP wife presents hampers to first born at new Point Fortin Hospital

A gift from the wife of the Member of Parliament for Point Fortin Mrs. Sade Richards to the first three mothers who gives birth at the new Point Fortin hospital

This morning Mrs. Richards presented the gifts to mothers who first gave birth in the new Point Fortin hospital

The first woman to give birth at the hospital was Ms. Nichelle Roberts. She gave birth to her baby boy at 1.45am on Wednesday morning. At birth the baby weighted in at 3.27kg

southsidenewstt was told her baby will be named Tariq

The second to give birth was Ms. Marlene Lewis who has given birth to a baby girl at 5.37am; the weight was 3.782kg and the third born was to Ms. Crystal St. Bernard, a boy weight 3.7kg he came into the world at 10.54am

Southsidenewstt joins Mrs. Richards in congratulating the mothers and the staff of the hospital on this momentous and joyful happening.

Finally, Point Fortin new Hospital becomes fully operational.

Point Fortin Member of Parliament Kennedy Richards Jr. has adviced his constituents that the new Point Fortin Hospital will be fully operational from 8 am on Monday 15th March 2021.

In a Facebook post from his official pages, Mr Richards said that the New Point Fortin Hospital located at Point Fortin Main Road would be 100% operational. All departments have already moved from the old Area Hospital and have now taken their place at the new facility.

It was only last week southsidenewstt in a news article called on the Minister of Health, Terrance Dalaysingh, to say when the new hospital would become fully operational. This call came in light of the shooting death of Anthony Jeffery, which occurred a week ago.

Mr Jeffery was shot on Friday 5th March mere meters from the new billion dollar Hospital. He had to be transferred to San Fernando General Hospital for emergency treatment however, he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Southsidenewstt Congratulates Karisha

It is with a deep sense of JOY that southsidenewstt wishes to congratulate Ms. Karisha Rajkumar who attended the Vessigny Secondary School on winning an open scholarship, after receiving All Grade I (one) in her Cape Examinations in 2020.

Speaking to southsidnewstt today the elated Karisha said she is very happy and humble. She wants to thank the Almighty God, her family and her Teachers for all there support. She also wants to advise her colleagues to put in the extra effort, it may seem hard but it will pay off in the end.

Ms Rajkumar future plans is to study the field of Business and Accounting.
