Body of man found in New Village

The decomposing body of a man has been discovered in Gerald Street, New Village, Point Fortin. According to report’s reaching southsidenewstt, the body of Abraham Cooper, 39 yrs was found in his apartment around 7:00 p.m. last evening.

Mr Cooper’s girlfriend told investigators she last saw alive on Friday and did not check on him until yesterday when she found him dead. Because of the state of decomposition of the body, the cause of death could not be immediately determined. The District Medical Officer visited the scene and ordered the body be removed to Forensic Scientist Centre where a Post Mortem will be carried out today to determine the cause of death.

Point Fortin Police are continuing investigation.

A Gonzales man jailed for Shop Breaking and Larceny

A twenty four yrs. old unemployed man of Salick Track, Gonzales,  Guapo was sentenced to forty months hard labour for shop breaking and larceny on Wednesday, he is Michael Bramble. 

Mr. Bramble appeared before Point Fortin Magistrate Court on Wednesday to answer the charges laid against him. The Court heard on Monday 8th September 2020 that Mr Bramble break into the Royal Bar located on Main Road, Point Fortin and removed items from the bar namely alcohol.

Bramble pleaded guilty to the offences, and the magistrate then sentenced him to forty months in Prison.

The charge was laid by Constable Constantine of the Point Fortin Police Station.

Venezuelan continue to enter Trinidad Illegally

Police have detained several Venezuelan Nationals for illegal entry into Trinidad. According to information reaching southsidenewstt, around 6.30 pm yesterday a party of Police Officers were on mobile patrol in the Chatham area when they spotted illegal immigrants who had  just came ashore.

The Officers were also assisted by members of the ERP Unit who also were on patrol and Custom Officers from the Cedros base. The said persons were searched; however, nothing illegal was found in their possession. The Venezuelan Immigrants were conveyed to the Siparia Health Facility for COVID 19 screening as instructed by CMOH Dr. Ramnarine to obtain a quarantine order for the immigrants, following there quarantine period they will be charged for entering Trinidad illegally.

Meanwhile, around 1.50 am today police received information from the Police Command Centre of illegal immigrants on the Chatham Beach. Officers of the Point Fortin Police Station proceeded to the area, where the officers saw two men of Spanish descend on the beach. As a result, the officer called out to the said men, one of which was dressed in a black jersey and 3/4 pants, who pointed an object resembling a firearm in the direction of the Police officer. The officer became fearful for his life and as a result drew his service firearm and discharged one (1) round in the direction of the men who ran and boarded a nearby boat together with another man and escaped.

Point Fortin Police are continuing inquires.

Murder In Santa Flora

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting death of Sean Ramroop 40, a fisherman of Beach Camp Road, Santa Flora. According to reports Sean’s family reported to Police around noon yesterday they realized he was missing since early in the morning. Family and friends mounted a search party. Their journeyed some 3 miles into the forested area where his body was found with several gunshots about his body shortly after 5:00 p.m. yesterday.

Police are working on the theory that it may be a drug link in this killing.  Inspector Jones of Region Three Homicide Bureau is continuing investigations.

KENNEDY KENDELL RICHARDS JR. IS TURNING A NEW LEAF AS HE CARRIES THE BATON TO THE PARLIAMENT

History once again has been created in Point Fortin as the man who was the youngest serving Mayor of the Borough took the oath of office this morning as the Member of Parliament for the constituency of Point Fortin.

Kennedy Kendell Richards Jr. is also the youngest MP for Point Fortin, which is in its 40th year as a Borough.

This Caribbean Airlines pilot was born to Kennedy Richards Sr. and Jean Richards. He attended the Point Fortin Muslim Primary School and after sitting the Common Entrance Exam he passed for Vessigny Secondary School where he obtained his O’ Level passes. and complete his A’Level Exams at the same School.

At a tender age, the young Kennedy decided to become a pilot during a holiday trip to New York with his parents. In fact, he got his pilot license before he even had his driver’s permit – so focused was he on attaining his dream of flying a plane.

Kennedy Richards Jr. shot into public life following the sudden death of his father Kennedy Richards Sr. in 2010, who at that time was the Councillor for Hollywood /Fanny village.

Richards Jr. decided to go into public office after his father died. Since he had an amazing mentor, it was no surprise that he was selected as Councillor and carried the baton for the same area as his father, until he tendered his resignation on Monday 24th August, 2020.

During his tenure as a Councillor, Kennedy Jr. served on many Committees before being elevated to Deputy Mayor and it was only last December that he was sworn-in as the Mayor of Point Fortin – the highest position in the Council.

Kennedy Jr. is pleased that during his tenure as Mayor he introduced FinTech or Financial Technology to the Borough of Point Fortin, which allows for cashless transactions to ensure the safety of both customers and vendors.

Additionally, he introduced a cashless Grant system to allow persons not covered by Government Public Assistance to obtain support, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mr. Richards Jr. states, “as the Member of Parliament for the Borough of Point Fortin I would be able to further introduce the FinTech services to all the constituents.”  He also promises to represent his constituency “as they have never seen before”.

Today is undoubtedly another proud and humbling moment for Mr. Richards Jr., his wife Sade Richards and their three children, as he becomes the youngest MP of Point Fortin.

One shot and one stabbed in Fyazbad

Two men are nursing wounds following an altercation in Fyzabad last night. According to information reaching southsidenewstt, around 7:00 p.m., a group was liming on EZ Street, Fyzabad when a loud explosion was heard. Marlon Francios told investigators he felt a burning sensation to his leg.

At the same time, Kern Cooper was stabbed in the chest. Both men were taken to the Siparia Health Facility and were treated and transferred to the San Fernando General Hospital. Both men remained in Hospital. Mr Cooper is said to be in a serious condition while Francios is in a stable condition.

Sgt. Smith of the Fyzabad Police Station is conducting investigations.

Point Fortin man Attack with Wheel Spanner

A Point Fortin man is nursing injuries after being attacked by a man known to him. According to reports’ shortly before 10.am today, the victim, only identified as Stoney was washing a vehicle at the Gas Station in Frisco Junction, Point Fortin when the incident occurred.

Stoney was hit in the head with a wheel spanner, he collapse and fell to the ground in full view of the public. He was taken to the Point Fortin Area Hospital for treatment by officers attached to the Point Fortin Municipal Police who were on mobile patrol.

Police are now searching for the suspect.

7 Charged with Breaching the Covid-19 Regulations

The accused; Garnet Persad 66, Dave Jassent 28, Suresh Ramsawak 49, Ramraj Jsaaan 41, Harry Ramperdsingh 36 and Riazodeen Karam 51, all of the Penal district, were arrested by officers of the Penal Police Station for breaching Regulation 2(a) of the Public Health Ordinance Regulations – gathering in a public place where the number of persons exceeded five.

Meanwhile also arrested was the bartender Prenchan Seeratan 55, also of Penal. He was charged with conducting the business of a bar during the specified period and providing the amenity of seated accommodation at a restaurant and bar to customers during the specified period.

They were held during an anti-crime exercise conducted in the district around 10 am on Monday 17th August 2020.

According to reports, Police received information and proceeded to the restaurant and bar located at Goodman Trace Junction, Penal Rock Road, Penal, where they observed several persons seated within the premises consuming alcoholic beverages.

The seven men were arrested in connection with the breach.
Charges were laid by Sgt. Siew of the Penal Police Station on Monday 17th August 2020.

A birthday celebration turns tragic.

A sixty year old man has drowned during his birthday celebration on the Clifton Hill Beach in Point Fortin on Sunday. He is Dhanraj Ramnarine from Fairfield Road, Princess Town.

According to the report’s, a friend of the dead man told investigators the deceased went for a swim around 12.30 pm. About fifteen minutes later he observed Ramnarine about 20 feet in the water. A short while after he got into difficulties and he did not see him again.  A search was carried out in the area and Ramnarine was discovered and brought to shore where CPR was performed on him in an attempt to resuscitate him, which proved unsuccessful.

The District Medical Officer, Dr. Dubrey visited the scene and made a pronouncement and ordered the removal of the body to the San-Fernando General Hospital Mortuary pending post mortem. Point Fortin Police are continuing investigation.
