Drive by shooting in South Oropouche

One man is dead, and the other is nursing a gun shot wound following a shooting in South Oropouche today. According to report’s reaching southsidenewstt around 4.30 pm two men were liming in Red Brick Trace, South Oropouche when a car approached them with three men, one of the occupants in the car opened fire hitting both men several time about their body.

Both men were rushed to San Fernando General Hospital, one of the men were pronounced dead on arrival, he is yet to be identified.

The second victim is identified as Sterling Walcott of Pepper Village, Fyzabad. He is said to be undergoing emergency surgery at this time.

Southern Division Homicide Officers are continuing investigation.

Mass Eviction in Clifton Hill, Point Fortin

Scores of Police Officers and State Officials move in this morning in Clifton Hill, Point Fortin and evicted unauthorized residents of houses that were left vacant following the closure of Petrotrin. When Southsidenewstt visited this morning some of the residents were seen picking up their belongings. For over one year and a half a man claiming to be the owner of the properties have been renting illegal occupants these houses.

Southsidenewstt attempted to contact the gentleman who claimed to be the owner of the properties, but our efforts proved futile.

Bail granted to a Point Fortin man charged with Sexual Assault of a Minor

Bail has been granted to a 49-year-old Point Fortin man charged with five counts of sexual penetration of a minor. This morning the accused appear virtually before a Point Fortin Magistrate to answer the charges. He was not called upon to plea as the charges were laid indictable.   He was granted three hundred and seven five thousand dollars with surety to cover all charge.

The court heard that the accuse was having intercourse with the minor who is his daughter for over several years, the last time the sexual assault occurred was 7.00 am on October 19 this year.

Upon learning of the report made to the police, the suspect reportedly attempted to commit suicide by ingesting a combination of Malathion, power steering oil and brakes fluid. He was taken to the Point Fortin Area Hospital and treated and then transferred to the San Fernando General Hospital where he received further treatment and was seen by the Hospital Psychiatrist.

On Sunday, the accused was discharged from the institution and taken into police custody where he was charged on Monday evening.

The matter was adjounced to 24 November 2020.

A Point Fortin man is nursing gunshot wounds to his lower back and buttocks. According to reports, around 9 pm last night Sunil Ramlall was at his Nelson Avenue home, when two men called out to him. He told police the men were unknown to him, one of the men asked him to sell them marijuana he informed the man that he has since stopped selling marijuana. At the same time he attempted to get back inside his house when he heard two loud explosions and felt a burning sensation to his back. He was taken to the Point Fortin Area Hospital, where he was treated and was transferred to the San Fernando General Hospital where he remained warded is a stable condition.

Point Fortin Police are continuing investigations.

Body of a female discovered in Santa Flora

The woman found in Santa flora has been identified as 23 yrs old Tenil Cupid of Fyazbad.  The gruesome discovery in St. Clyne Road, Santa Flora was made by a WASA worker around 3.35 pm today, it was only earlier today her mother reported her missing to the Police.

The body bore a wound to the head, Police have no motive for the killing.  Inspector Jones of the Southern Division Homicide are continuing investigation.

Bad weather causes Havoc in Point Fortin.

Cleaning operations has started in Point Fortin following the passing of an early afternoon thunderstorm activity which brought heavy rain and high winds that knocked out power, blow off several rooftops and rooting up trees.

The thunderstorm activity also destroyed the Farmer’s Market, as customers and vendors had to run for safety as tents were seen flying up in the air. Some of the affected areas were Hollywood, Moses Julien Trace

When we visited the affected areas, residents in the Hollywood Area were seen in mop-up operations where a tree has fallen on a house owned by Juslyn Joseph.

Speaking to Her Worship Mayor Saleem Thomas, she said that the Corporation Disaster Management Unit was in full operation mode and already started to assess the affected residents who would be provided with some relief.

Is there an arsonist in Point Fortin

Another fire in Point Fortin. According to reports around 9.45 pm last night Point Fortin Police received an anonymous call telling them of a fire in a building located along the Cap-de-Ville Main Road, Point Fortin in the vicinity of the market. The Fire Service was contacted, when Fire Fighters arrived the building was engulfed in flames. The building housed Fashion City Variety Store.

The Firemen battled the blaze for more than two hours however, their efforts were hampered by the water situation, as there were no water in the fire hydrant in Point Fortin last night, it took the intervention of the Point Fortin Mayor Her Worship Saleema Thomas to have WASA turn on the water. The Fire Fighters managed to contain the blaze from spreading to a nearby building.

The cause of the blaze is unknown. Fire Prevention Officers is expected to return to the scene today to determine the cause of the fire.

This is the second fire in the Borough in just two days and the residents are now concerned.

Fire destroyed a house in Point Fortin

Fire of an unknown origin has destroyed a house in Point Fortin. According to report’s, shortly before 2:00 p.m. today Point Fortin Fire Fighters responded to a trouble call telling them of a fire on Handle Road, Point Fortin. When the officers arrived, the house was well alight. The officer’s managed to contain the blaze from spreading to near homes, however the house was completely destroyed.

When southsidenewstt visited the scene, we were told by the owner of the house that the house was unoccupied. However, they were informed that the property is frequent by a Street Dweller and the person was seen at the house shortly before it started to burn. The street dweller was heard saying that she was going to burn down the house, shortly after a loud explosion was heard.

Fire Prevention Officers are expected to return to the scene to determine the cause of the blaze. Point Fortin Police are continuing investigation.

Point Fortin man goes missing

A Point Fortin man has gone missing; he is 52 years old Edison Garraway of Pongola Central Road, Point Fortin. According to report’s reaching southsidenewstt his son Shane Garraway made a report to the Point Fortin Police Station last night that he last saw his father the senior Garraway around 6:00 a.m. on the 25/09/2020 and have not seen or heard, and despite several efforts, he was unable to locate him.

Garraway is of African descent, dark brown in complexion, an oval face, round forehead with a scar across his nose. He was last seen wearing blue jeans and a light blue jersey and driving a Silver Toyota Tercel, Registration # PBD 5978 along Central Road, Point Fortin.

Mr Garraway is six feet two inches tall (6′ 2″). Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call the Point Fortin Police Station at 648-2426, or 555, 999, 911 or 800 TIPS.

Murder and attempted suicide in Penal

A woman has been beheaded in Penal. She is identified as Reshma Kanchan of Laltoo Trace, Penal. The incident is reported to occur this morning, and the suspect killer attempted to commit suicide.
