Covid-19 Lime turn Deadly in Point Fortin.

A Soldier has been shot dead by a Police Officer in Point Fortin. He is CPL Kervon Miller of the Trinidad and Tobago Regiment, details remain sketchy, but southsidenewstt understands, the incident occurred around 1.30 am today during a lime in Reservoir Hill, Point Fortin. Mr. Miller was rushed to the Point Fortin Area Hospital where he died while undergoing emergency treated around 3.35 am.

We were also told that a Police Officer who is currently attached to the GEB Section of the TTPS is being questioned by his colleagues about the incident.

We will bring our readers more information on this development as it comes to hand in a subsequent newscast.

Security Guard is shot during a Robbery in La Brea.

A security guard is now nursing gunshot wounds following a robbery at a supermarket in La Brea. According to reports reaching southsidenewstt shortly after 5.30 pm today, two armed men entered the Welcome Supermarket, one of East India descent and the other of African descent. They announced a holdup and then proceeded to relieve the cashier of an undisclosed sum of money. Before leaving, one of the bandits fired a shot hitting the security guard Nigel Beharry in his right leg. He was rushed to the San Fernando General Hospital where he was treated and warded

The staff of the Ministry of Works and Transport Unemployment Relief Programme in Point Fortin, are now bracing for victimization, mass transfers, and even dismissal as they throw their full support behind their colleague Independent Candidate Christopher (Boy Ross) Wright for the upcoming local bye-election for the electoral district of Hollywood, in Point Fortin.  Several employees reached out to our newsroom voicing their concerns about the threats made by a Senior Staff of the programme in Point Fortin to them.

Southsidenewstt reached out to Minister of Works and Transport and Party Deputy Political Leader of the People’s National Movement, Rohan Sinanan, but calls to his mobile phone went unanswered.

A Point Fortin teenager has gone missing. She is SELENA MIRCHAR, 16, of Cap-de-Ville, Point Fortin, who was last seen on 02.01.2021.

Faceoff for Hollywood

Three Candidates is seeking the fill the seat left vacant by Member of Parliament Kennedy Richards Jr. and former Councilor for Hollywood in the upcoming local bye-elections on January 25th, 2021.

They are PNM Candidate and Deputy Mayor, Alderman Leslie Chang Fong, Independent Candidate, Christopher (Boy Ross) Wright and UNC Candidate, Daniel John. They all filed their nomination papers this morning at the Returning Officer of Point Fortin.

The PNM Candidate Mr Chang Fong is confident of victory. He went on to say that Hollywood has always been a PNM stronghold and he expects it to remain so after the election.

However, Independent Candidate, Mr Wright said that the PNM candidate has no moral authority to represent Hollywood’s people since he does not reside in the district and has no ties with the people.

Meanwhile, the UNC Candidate Daniel John said the after years of neglect the PNM has now insulted the people by putting an outsider to represent them. He is calling on the people to vote against the PNM Candidate on January 25th, 2021.

Point Fortin is still waiting for the new Hospital to become fully functional

The Residents of Point Fortin and Environs are calling on the Health Minister, Terrence Dayalsingh to say when the new Point Fortin Area Hospital would be fully operational. Several residents contacted southsidenewstt complaining that the Health Facility which opened in July this year does not accommodate emergency patients. These patients said, they still have to visit the Old Hospital and those who are deemed as critical Patients are sent to the San Fernando General Hospital.

We were also told that while the new facility is accommodating some Outpatient Clinics, many still have to travel to San Fernando for a clinic appointment.

Southsidenewstt contacted the Corporate, Communications Manager of the South-West Regional Health Authority, Mr Kevon Gervais who says the facility will become fully operational early in the new year.

Techier Residents received their Deeds

Some residents of Techier Village, Point Fortin can breathe a sigh of relief as they have received their deeds from the Housing Development Corporation.

The brief handing over ceremony told place at the Member of Parliament for Point Fortin Office today following Public Health Advisory, each recipient was given a special time to be present to collect their Deed.

Speaking to southsidenewstt one recipient said he was happy to receive his deed today for his childrens’ future. Also speaking was the Member of Parliament Kennedy Richards JR, who said, he was happy to continue the work started by his predecessor.

Southsidenewstt understand that the deeds are being given in batches and the process will be continuing into the future.

Point Fortin Company donates tablets to Children’s Home

Albert Maintenance & General Service Limited has donated eight tablets to the Ferndean’s Children’s Home in Harriman Park, Point Fortin.

Speaking at yesterday morning handing over ceremony was Chief Executive Officer Mr Alexander Joseph who said he was so happy to give back to the community.

As the world is facing this global pandemic, we all must play our part as citizens. We at Albert Maintenance were happy to do ours as this donation is to ensure that the children of this home are equipped with the necessary resources for their school work, as the future now lies in the hands of the children, not with any destructive elements/objects but with Technology.

So, I want to thank the Management and Staff of the Institution for accepting our gift to the children. In closing, I want to call on the business community of Point Fortin to assist the home with high-speed internet. 

Also in attendance at yesterday’s ceremony was the Member of Parliament for Point Fortin, The Rt. Honourable Kennedy K. Richards Jr. He congratulated the company for their initiative in assisting the Children’s Home. He also indicated that he will reach out to the Business community of Point Fortin seeking their assistance in giving the home a facelift.

Car jacking gone bad

One man is dead following an attempted car jacking in Quarry Village, Siparia. He is Nickolas Garcia 26yrs of Palo Seco. According to reports shortly before three o’clock today Mr. Garcia attempted to rob a vehicle belonging to a Member of Trinidad and Tobago Defense Force. We are told that the soldier drew his service weapon and shot Garcia, he died on the spot.

Police and Members of the Defense Force are currently on the scene.
