Dear Burgess’s
Today, April 30th, 2020, we celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the conferral of Borough status on our beloved community of Point Fortin.
As the first citizen of our Borough, it gives me great pleasure to greet all our burgesses on this occasion, despite the fact that current circumstances do not permit us to celebrate as we would usually do.
Today our Borough turns 40, and as a Council, we are focused at 40.
In the face of COVID-19, we are indeed focused on recognizing that we owe a duty of care to all burgesses and particularly to the most vulnerable among us. In this regard, all members of Council are on the frontline, in the streets, lanes and traces, bringing relief to those most in need.
In a general sense, however, we are focused on ensuring that Point Fortin remains safe, that our institutions remain intact and, that as a Corporation, we discharge our municipal functions to the satisfaction of all our burgesses.
At this time, we are also taking a moment to reflect on the many councillors, aldermen and corporation staff who have rendered selfless and immeasurable service over the past 40 years. It is to their credit, that today the Point Fortin Corporation can stand proud in celebration of this milestone.
So yes, at 40 we are focused on where we came from, and we are acknowledging those who brought us to this stage of our development.
But at the same time, we are also fuelling the future, so that as a Corporation, we can continue to lead our people and community along the path of continuous evolution, development and transformation.
As we look beyond our 40th birthday, we envision a growing township with a new, adequately outfitted hospital. We also anticipate the completion of the iconic Mahaica sporting facility and look forward to connecting with the rest of the country via the new highway and associated road upgrades.
But above all, the most critical ingredient in fuelling our future will be the innate character and indomitable spirit of our people. Point Fortin is a community that has endured many stresses over the years, and we have always prevailed, because of that distinct quality of resilience that abounds in and among our people.
So once again, it is my distinct pleasure to extend a happy 40th Borough Anniversary to all, as we focus on our strengths, and use our achievements and the spirit of our people to fuel our future.
May God bless us all
