Bail granted to a Point Fortin man charged with Sexual Assault of a Minor

Bail has been granted to a 49-year-old Point Fortin man charged with five counts of sexual penetration of a minor. This morning the accused appear virtually before a Point Fortin Magistrate to answer the charges. He was not called upon to plea as the charges were laid indictable.   He was granted three hundred and seven five thousand dollars with surety to cover all charge.

The court heard that the accuse was having intercourse with the minor who is his daughter for over several years, the last time the sexual assault occurred was 7.00 am on October 19 this year.

Upon learning of the report made to the police, the suspect reportedly attempted to commit suicide by ingesting a combination of Malathion, power steering oil and brakes fluid. He was taken to the Point Fortin Area Hospital and treated and then transferred to the San Fernando General Hospital where he received further treatment and was seen by the Hospital Psychiatrist.

On Sunday, the accused was discharged from the institution and taken into police custody where he was charged on Monday evening.

The matter was adjounced to 24 November 2020.
