History once again has been created in Point Fortin as the man who was the youngest serving Mayor of the Borough took the oath of office this morning as the Member of Parliament for the constituency of Point Fortin.

Kennedy Kendell Richards Jr. is also the youngest MP for Point Fortin, which is in its 40th year as a Borough.

This Caribbean Airlines pilot was born to Kennedy Richards Sr. and Jean Richards. He attended the Point Fortin Muslim Primary School and after sitting the Common Entrance Exam he passed for Vessigny Secondary School where he obtained his O’ Level passes. and complete his A’Level Exams at the same School.

At a tender age, the young Kennedy decided to become a pilot during a holiday trip to New York with his parents. In fact, he got his pilot license before he even had his driver’s permit – so focused was he on attaining his dream of flying a plane.

Kennedy Richards Jr. shot into public life following the sudden death of his father Kennedy Richards Sr. in 2010, who at that time was the Councillor for Hollywood /Fanny village.

Richards Jr. decided to go into public office after his father died. Since he had an amazing mentor, it was no surprise that he was selected as Councillor and carried the baton for the same area as his father, until he tendered his resignation on Monday 24th August, 2020.

During his tenure as a Councillor, Kennedy Jr. served on many Committees before being elevated to Deputy Mayor and it was only last December that he was sworn-in as the Mayor of Point Fortin – the highest position in the Council.

Kennedy Jr. is pleased that during his tenure as Mayor he introduced FinTech or Financial Technology to the Borough of Point Fortin, which allows for cashless transactions to ensure the safety of both customers and vendors.

Additionally, he introduced a cashless Grant system to allow persons not covered by Government Public Assistance to obtain support, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mr. Richards Jr. states, “as the Member of Parliament for the Borough of Point Fortin I would be able to further introduce the FinTech services to all the constituents.”  He also promises to represent his constituency “as they have never seen before”.

Today is undoubtedly another proud and humbling moment for Mr. Richards Jr., his wife Sade Richards and their three children, as he becomes the youngest MP of Point Fortin.
